South Dakota Angus Association Undergraduate Scholarship Program

The South Dakota Angus Association will offer general scholarships to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in higher education.

Eligible Angus youth meeting the qualifications for the South Dakota Angus Association Undergraduate Scholarship Program will be considered by the South Dakota Angus Association Scholarship Selection Committee. These general scholarships for Angus youth are made possible only by the generous financial support from Angus breeders and support and partnership with Martin-Trudeau Insurance.

Applicants are eligible from South Dakota only. This application is available to all High School Seniors and those already attending colleges or universities.

One or more $1,000 scholarships will awarded to an individual or individuals that will be selected by the South Dakota Angus Association Undergraduate Scholarship selection committee.

The applicant needs to be involved in agricultural youth activities such as Jr. Angus Association, 4-H, FFA, etc.

Applicants must be from South Dakota. Graduating high school seniors or those currently attending a college or university including technical institutes are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

APPLICATION DEADLINE - AUGUST 1

Applicants must attend a post-secondary accredited institution and understand that the $1,000.00 scholarship will be disbursed directly to the institution. If a scholarship winner withdraws from school before all of the scholarship money is used, that scholarship winner will be responsible to get the remaining money back to the South Dakota Angus Association Scholarship Fund.

The scholarship winner will be encouraged to be in attendance or have a representative at the South Dakota State Fair, Huron, SD where the scholarship will be awarded during the SD Angus Open and Junior Show.

In case of a recipient not being able to use this scholarship or not accepting it, an alternate recipient will be selected.

SELECTION PROCESS

Selection will be based on the following criteria: (type answers on separate sheet)

  1. Academic (grades) - 25%
  2. Personal (employment, extra curricular, honors, community service) - 25%
  3. Short story about involvement in Jr. Angus Association - 4-H - FFA - other - 30%
  4. Financial need - 20%

Additional material needed:

  1. Name of college or university you are attending or planning to attend
  2. Copy of high school or college transcript indicating GPA
  3. Current color photograph of applicant
  4. List of honors received in High School, College, Jr. Angus Assn., 4-H & FFA awards, Church group involvement, any other organization participation
  5. Your involvement in the Angus Breed of Cattle

South Dakota Angus Association Scholarship Acceptance Agreement

  1. I must attend a post-secondary/accredited institution including trade and vocational schools.
  2. The scholarship will be disbursed directly to the school I will be attending.
  3. If I withdraw from school during the time for which a refund is due, the refund will be prorated back to the South Dakota Angus Association Scholarship Fund.
  4. I understand that I or my representative will be required to appear in person during the South Dakota State Fair Open & Junior Angus Show.
